Portable Solar Panels For Caravans - How to Generate Free Electricity on the Open Road

When you are on a road trip with a group of friends in a caravan, there are a couple of ways you can generate electricity. One of the most common options is to use a gasoline generator.

However, many people do not like this approach because a generator is noisy and creates a lot of air pollution. The running cost for a generator is also quite high because you have to constantly top it up with gasoline. When you are out in the wilderness with your friends, the last thing you want to do is pollute it with carbon monoxide and loud noise.

As a better alternative, a caravan can use a portable solar panels system to generate electricity. It is a better option because solar energy is clean, does not generate any pollution, low running cost and requires only minimal maintenance.

If you are opting to use solar power on your road trip, it would be best for you to make some early preparation. No doubt a solar system for caravan is a good idea, however, you must have certain skill and knowledge to set it up.

Do you understand how electricity works? Can you read an electrical wiring diagram? Can you configure electronic components just by reading its user manual? This are some of the criteria you need to have before you build your own Do It Yourself (DIY) solar system.

A portable solar system is actually quite simple. The key components real free psn codes are the solar panels, charge controller, battery bank and power inverter. The solar panels are made from a type of semi-conductive material known as Photovoltaic (PV) cells.

PV cells have the natural tendency to generate an electric current when exposed to sunlight. For a caravan, it is recommended for you to set up a large group solar array mounted on the ground.

The solar panels are to be connected to a charge controller via 2 copper cables. One will be the positive run and the other the negative run cable. The charge controller will use the electric current from the PV panels to charge a battery bank.

The size of the battery bank will depend on the size of the caravan. As a rule of thumb, 2 units of 12 volt deep cycle battery will provide sufficient electricity for 1 family throughout the night. If you have a big group, just expand the battery units as needed.

Since batteries can only hold Direct Current (DC), you would have to use a power inverter to change the DC to Alternate Current (AC). All modern electronic equipment are designed to use AC.
